First Green Bike Lanes

The first green bike lanes were installed in the City of West Palm Beach on 15th Street, between Australian and Dixie. These lanes have a special paint application and with the addition of bioswales along the sides, is a great example of green infrastructure. At the city or county scale, green infrastructure is a patchwork of natural areas that provides habitat, flood protection, cleaner air, and cleaner water. At the neighborhood or site scale, stormwater management systems that mimic nature soak up and store water.

The lanes are extremely bright with reflective bits. This is a great addition to our City and a great step towards bicycle infrastructure and improving multi-modal mobility! It took a lot of concerted effort and the end result is beautiful. The lane runs through a residential area flanked by Roosevelt Elementary School, a perfect safe space for cycling.
